Urban Grunge – USCB

December 28, 2009

Jeff at USCBThis photograph of Jeff was taken at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. It was deliberately processed to give it an urban grunge look.

One of the interesting aspect of working with a model is the ability to experiment with more unconventional images.  While I find this image has a certain visual appeal, most customers would want something a bit more classic.

Puppy Love at Finishing Touches, Beaufort

December 18, 2009

Finishing Touches PuppyThis puppy is a new resident at Finishing Touches in downtown Beaufort.

We were shopping for some last minute gifts and Finishing Touches is a great place to find those.

As soon as we stepped in the door, we noticed this excited and energetic bundle of energy.

It turns out that our friend is rather camera shy! As soon as the shutter clicked, it took off and decided to hide in it’s doggy bed.

That is where this picture was taken.

Photography at 30,000 Feet

Airplane TravelerThis photograph was taken somewhere over the mid-west while we were flying from Milwaukee to Cincinnati.

I really don’t mind flying. You never know who you will  meet on a plane.

This young fellow traveler was flying for the first time with his mom & dad.

As we were taking off, he covered his ears, worried that the engines would be too loud.

As we reached cruising altitude, he decided there was nothing to flying after all.

What’s with Wisconsin?

December 14, 2009

Waukesha SnowThis winter scene was captured during a recent stay in Waukesha, WI. For some inexplicable reason, mother nature decided she needed to dump 8 inches of snow while I was there! I’ve been living in Beaufort, SC for the last 6 years. I don’t do snow anymore!

The snow, I could reluctantly deal with. However, not content with a deluge of heavy wet stuff, temperature plummeted to a breezy 4 degrees Fahrenheit! Good Grief! It reinforces my resolve to stay put in my coastal oasis.

So what does a crazy camera-wielding Beaufortonian do? Go outside and take photographs.

Dogs to Cat: This is our Turf! – Downtown Beaufort Photography

December 5, 2009

3 dogs

As we were walking by the Lollipop Shop in downtown Beaufort, we noticed these three cute canines. They were milling around their owner on the porch.  The local tomcat, a fixture in this corner of Beaufort came by to make it clear that this was his territory. There wasn’t any big commotion, just some hissing and growling.  The usual posturing you sometimes see between animals (and teenagers).

This photograph was taken after the showdown. As the three dogs were staring at the departing feline.

Cool Hotel in Downers Grove

Double Tree Downers Grove

Here is another photograph from my recent trip to the Chicago area.  Downers Grove is one of the many suburbs around Chicagoland. The Double Tree Guest Suites and Conference Center is a wonderful place to stay. The central Atrium is really spectacular. This view of the atrium doesn’t do justice to the real thing.

During the day, light streams in via the large skylights. I chose this image because the lights give it a nice warm inviting feel.

Season of Sharing – Thank You to our Military

December 2, 2009

I recently became aware of the PDMA Portraits of Love initiative.  The project aims to send 10,000 family portraits to deployed soldiers.  Unfortunately, it ends this week.  Had I found out earlier, I would have participated as it is a cause that resonates deeply with me!

Instead, I am offering 5 military families the opportunity to receive a free on-site photography session and a framed print.

No gimmick, no strings attached. Just a small way to give back to those who serve our country.

Palmetto & Moon | Hunting Island Photography

December 1, 2009

Palmetto and MoonThis image was captured on a recent week-end trip to Hunting Island.

With the moon being visible in the afternoon sky, I thought it would be nice to capture the symbols of the South Carolina flags. Besides, the Palmetto and Moon are also part of our company logo.

While this is not exactly a crescent moon, it still turned out nicely.
